Whether your child is a creature of habit or lives for change, starting school is an important event!

Going to kindergarten or school is an important milestone for both you and your child. This may be the child's first step away from home or a transition to a new environment and friends. Even the return to a familiar program of the slightly older ones has its excitements, pleasures and anxieties. For the little ones, "change" can bring many feelings and thoughts. Some children accept and enjoy change more than others. But it is not uncommon for even the most communicative child to need extra attention during the first days and weeks of starting school.

Here are some simple steps you can follow to prepare your child for the new experiences:

1. Visit the kindergarten, school or classroom before the first day of school. You can contact the teacher and introduce him to the child in advance.
2. Get children's books on starting a school. Literature is a great way to provoke a discussion about first day of school.

3. Talk to your child about his feelings about school, friends, teachers and new activities.
4. Learning how to prepare each morning for the trip to school takes time. It is useful to practice this before the real first day of school. Pretend it's a school day and go through the steps of waking up, getting dressed, eating, and going out the door.
5. Rehearse skills such as dressing, undressing and hand washing. Your child will feel more confident when asked to do these things in kindergarten or school.
6. Make a compact family album. You can't stay with your child all the time, but your photos can! The process of making a photo album together is a bonding and comforting project.

7. Ask your child what breakfast wants to take to school. Shop the ingredients together and engage him in preparing and packing breakfast.
8. Go to the school schooping together. Clothes and school supplies are popular with both young children and teens. It is not too early to start the ritual of shopping special school clothes or items. It doesn't have to be expensive.
9. Do not rush to buy everything you need. Wait for the first parent meeting and ask the teachers for the necessary tools.
